Dr. Wang joined a highly engaging group of cancer researchers at the National Cancer Institute's Systemic Effects of Cancer Think Tank. https://events.cancer.gov/dcb/systemic-effects-cancer-think-tank
He presented the lab's latest spatial technologies in studying changes in muscle regeneration and discoveries in skeletal muscle wasting in aging, as well as the many parallels to what happens in cancer and cancer-induced cachexia (the rapid atrophy of muscle with cancer).
Rapid muscle wasting is a detrimental systemic effect of cancer and associated with poor prognosis. Throughout the discussions at the Think Tank, a common theme was that we need to better understand how to prevent or improve muscle health, in addition to fighting cancer.
